Squibs

Squibs are 19 foot keelboats with Mace (Brown) sails that sail at the club throughout the season. The National Squib was designed in 1967 by Oliver Lee, and the first fleet was formed at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham. Since then the fleet has spread across the country and is now one of the most popular one design keelboat fleet in the country.

The Squib offers a huge amount of opportunities for sailing, including regular local and national racing series including; Cowes Week, National Championships and this year's first excursion abroad to France.

The RVYC is growing in stature with boats placing in the top three at three of the early season events at Waveney and Oulton Broad, West Mersea and Burnham. Local racing at the club has seen 12 boats competing so far with plenty of close racing. We have a huge range of sailors, ranging from relative youngsters in their 20s, through to the more experienced competitors who are enjoying their retirement and everything in between.

Our fleet is always looking for new people to come and enjoy sailing in Squibs. There are opportunities through the clubs adult sailing, using the clubs two owned squibs (Alice and Beatrice) at open sailing and racing, or by joining one of our current sailors for a race to see if you enjoy it.

If you are interested in sailing, buying or have any other questions do not hesitate to contact myself, the Vice Captain or drop by the club where someone will be able to point you in the direction of the closest Squibber.

More information can be found at the National Squib Owners Association website (http://www.squibs.co.uk/)
