What do our Cadets do?
Meeting throughout the year on a Friday evening, the winter time is taken up with a mix of theory sessions and social activities in the club house.
A programme of shoreside events is published in advance including both Fitting Out and Laying Up Suppers, Capsize practice at the local swimming pool, Cadet Week, and Registration night.
Key dates for 2020 are found in the leaflet attached .
Our first on water sailing session will be on 17 April and typically every other Friday dependant on tides until early September.
On the non-sailing nights the groups may meet for short theory sessions (depending on instructor availability).
Who can join in?
Each Cadet will need to be a member of the club and be aged between 8 and 18 years.
Please be aware numbers are limited, before joining the club as a member, check there is availability with the cadet leaders.
What will you learn?
As an RYA Onboard Club , we will be using our Friday night sessions as a safe and fun way for our cadets to get out on the water and learn to sail well and confidently . As a RYA Training Centre , our sessions are run by qualified dinghy instructors.
The intensive sail training given during Cadet week is the perfect time to complete any RYA qualifications .
Some of the qualifications you will be able to gain during Cadet week ( 19 - 22 August 2020 ) are:
- Youth Stages 1 to 4
- Start Racing
- Day Sailing
- Sailing with Spinnakers
- In addition we can also run Powerboat 2 courses for Cadets.
