Squib Southern Championships 2025
Every September the South Coast plays host to one of the Squib calendar's most anticipated fixtures: the Squib South Coast Championships (SSCC), this year taking place 20/ 21 September 2025 at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Fishbourne. Racing will be held in the eastern Solent, offering competitors open water conditions, fair courses, and tactical racing.
Over the two days, the race team aims to deliver up to six races (three per day, with the option of a fourth if conditions allow), maximising racing opportunities in what is often a settled, sea-breeze-filled late-summer weekend. Entry is open to all members of the National Squib Owners' Association, and with a limit of 30 boats, early registration is encouraged to ensure a spot and access to visitors' moorings.
The weekend starts with a 0900 briefing on the club lawn on Saturday, setting the stage for an efficient and well-run event. Entry is £50, and boats can be craned in from Friday afternoon. With ample space ashore, kit trailers remain on-site, and the RVYC's welcoming clubhouse and bar overlooking the moorings offer an ideal base for debriefs and post-race camaraderie.
The SSCC forms part of the Squib Travellers' Series, making it a valuable regatta for those aiming to score points across the national circuit. Earlier in the season, Cowes Classics Week showed just how competitive and enjoyable Solent Squib racing can be a strong turnout and close racing underscoring the continued appeal of the venue and the class.
