Arrival of 3 RS Tera's at RVYC

We are so very excited to announce the arrival at RVYC of three new RS Tera M2s to add to our Club dinghy fleet. The RS Tera is an RYA pathway boat and fits well within our existing fleet of dinghies already available to cadets and club members.

This has been made possible through a successful bid to the Eric Twiname Trust to enable a 40% discount on the production cost through a collaboration with RS Sailing. Our huge thanks to both organisations for supporting our request and to everyone involved in the bid process and logistics of boat collection.

Any UK sailing club can apply to the scheme and key IW sailing clubs have already been able to build their RS Tera fleets using the support of the Eric Twiname Trust.

The key stipulation attached to their support is that the boats are made available to any junior sailor under 18 who does not have access to their own boat within this class. We provide opportunities for our junior sailors to use the RS Tera for any racing and sailing at RVYC, plus enabling them to take part in regional, national or international RYA or RS Tera events.

"It's wonderful news for RVYC's thriving Cadet section and OnBoard programme", said RVYC's Rear-Commmodore Sailing, Jane Barrett Bellingham. "We strongly believe the Club to be in a great position now for supporting both the annual IW Youth Dinghy Championships and possibly the RS Tera Nationals in 2023".

There was great excitement when the new Teras were soft launched in Cadet Week. They were used to support cadets in their race training, enabling a larger fleet of identical boats to sail against one another. The new boats are now rigged and tweaked ready for the club's Merrydown Regatta in September and further rounds of the IW Youth Dinghy Championships at other clubs later in the year.

The boats have come with a cost to the club of £6,000 and this is now the fundraising target for the next six months. To date we have had generous support from the proceeds of the signing of the 1908 Olympic Yacht Regatta book in May; a personal donation of £500 ; £300 from the raffle at our Summer party and some ring-fenced funds from Tesco following a successful book sale at Ryde's Tesco Extra plus kit donations from the Cadet team .

So how can you help ?

We feel it is important that junior club members take responsibility for some of the fundraising. In addition we hope to have a family barn dance in the autumn and possibly a sponsored 'Away Sail ' plus activities during our Cadet sessions throughout the winter. We hope you can support in some way, perhaps through sponsoring a cadet, taking part in an activity or attending some fun events and activities.

If anyone does wish to donate in any way to our fundraising target - please do get in touch at rcs@rvyc.org.uk
