Cadet Beach Clean & Support of Single Use Plastic Initiative

Published 08:49 on 21 May 2018

On Friday 18 May 2018 at 18:30, The Royal Victoria Yacht Club announced its intention to work towards becoming a (single use) Plastic Free Club. Matt Harwood from Surfers Against Sewage is leading the initiative on the Isle of Wight and we signed up towards his 7 point pledge to reduce the use of plastic straws, plastic bottles, single use coffee cups , food containers and balloons within the bar and catering function of the RVYC.

Councillor Murwill, who heads up the IOWC Community Plastic Forum, and the Commodore, Steve Sheridan, along with members ,listened to an inspired presentation from Matt outlining the initiative.

Some of our cadets, lead by Cadet Captain Luke Sheridan, then hosted a clean-up of Fishbourne Beach.
