The first Wightlink Race of 2017 started in blustery conditions ranging from 13 to 21knots of wind that made for some exciting racing. Two cruisers, Mad Hatter and Nitric, had a close race round the cans with Mad Hatter sailing a better last leg to cross the line first. A fleet of 6 Squibs started the race with Aquabat, Steve Warren Smith in the lead after some close racing. He was passed on the final two legs by the Gibson boys in 623 who went onto win by half a boat length from Martin Harrison in Hussar. One RS400 and four laser went out with a win for the RS400 and some capsize drills for the laser fleet.
