RVYC CRUISER GROUP
The Cruiser Group is open to all members of our club regardless of whether you have your own cruiser or not. If this is the sort of sailing that interests you, and you would like to receive information regarding club rallies, cruiser events or information relevant to cruisers, get your name on the Cruiser Group email circulation list, by emailing your details to the address below, or give them directly to the Cruiser Captain. If you do not have your own boat, then cruiser owners often need crews either for racing, day trips or longer cruises, so come along to Club events and get to meet other cruiser members.

Ad Hoc Rallies – As with last year we hope to run more of these "last minute cruises".
A good spell of weather in early June made for a superb East Dorset Rally for our cruisers, Lisa, Luella, Manumit, Angela Mary, Cassiopeia and Elsa as a very welcomed late comer. Poole Harbour provided some excellent anchorages and Lymington, Wareham, Christchurch and Newtown made some interesting "ports of call".
Throughout the summer we managed several "Ad Hoc Rallies". Destinations were Ashlett Creek, Warsash and Chichester Harbour.
After a rather lively and wet sail down the Solent, the weather once again proved favourable for our End of Season Rally to Lymington. Manumit, Gemstone, Elsa, Piccolo, Benissimo, Lisa, Maud and Cassiopeia congregated on Lymington Town Quay for the weekend. An excellent dinner at the King's Head celebrated this last formal rally of the season.
Rather than trying to give details here of the trips, click here to see the photographs of the rallies. For photos of the Wednesday Group click here. These are a collection of cruiser day sails made by the Group when not doing jobs around the Club.
You will also see photos of the Cruiser Group's day trip to Newtown Creek with this year's Adult Sailors. This was the culmination of a successful run of the Cruiser Group helping with the RVYC Adult Sailing course. If you have not been involved with this before, it is a great way to introduce new sailors into cruiser sailing and also a good means of skippers to meet new crew and vice versa.
We have also heard of some members getting a bit further afield. Tamar Swallow made a trip down to the West Country and Benissimo, after a recent on-going refit got across to the Channel Islands. Nitric also made a cross Chanel passage returning in record breaking time. Whilst in St Vaast they met Tringa II of Hamble, who I gather were due to head off for the Netherlands in October. These are just the ones I know about, but I am sure other RVYC cruisers have been up to various exploits.
We are hoping that the Cruiser Group will be able to support the Club's three Open Sailing days this year, offering members of the club a chance to sail on a cruiser.
In addition we also hope to offer longer day cruises. These will be advertised nearer the time.
Please see the Club calendar for Cruiser races – a great way to hone your skills in making the best of wind and tide rather than turning on the engine or to have a couple of hours' sail with an objective.
RVYC Special Ensign
All members of RVYC have the right to obtain a Special Ensign permit under the Club's Warrant if they are British citizens and own a yacht (sail/motor/RIB) which meets Conditions Governing the Issue of Yacht Permits.
