Optimist joint squads racing weekend 23 and 24 March 2019

RVYC was represented by Finn and Noah Evans who have been sailing all over the country as part of their winter training and were looking forward to putting their new skills into practice on the race course.

Saturday dawned grey and misty but by the time the first race came round in the afternoon the skies had cleared and a force 1-2 settled down from the north. Racing was very tight and there were a number of restarts and OCS for some sailors. After a long afternoon the boys came ashore pretty tired. An early start on Sunday was met with glorious sunshine and no wind but by the time it came to launch at 9am a force 2 had filled in and all 60 sailors headed out for more races.

When the results were finalised Noah had come 4th overall and received a trophy for being highest placed from the Boys squad (plus an Easter Egg and very smart rucksack) and Finn had come 41st. Both were very pleased with their first races of the season (their sisters were also pleased with the Easter Egg) and next stop Lymington next weekend.

Many thanks to Wightlink for their support with cross-Solent travel.
