Push The Boat Out 2017
The Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Fishbourne hosted a very successful event on Saturday 13 May 2017 as part of the RYA's Push the Boat Out initiative .
The nine-day nationwide event saw hundreds of people taking part in the sport with open days and taster sessions taking place at sailing clubs and centres across the country.
The club opened its doors on a sunny morning with a bustle of activity both on and off the water. There were club boats – a Pico , Optimist & Wayfarer on the lawn for youngsters to look at with our cadets & a fleet of cruisers & RIBs on the pontoon to take families & friends out on the water. Over 28 people joined Steve in the club Squib 'Alice', Nigel and Chris on 'Nitric' ; Chris on 'Elsa' and Mick and Ben on 'Vavrona' to enjoy the thrill of sailing and the terrific hospitality of the Club.
Commodore Steve Sheridan said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA's Push the Boat Out. A huge thanks to all those RVYC members who made the day such a success and we look forward to welcoming some new faces who got the sailing bug! Our club offers adult sailing on a Wednesday night through the summer and cadet training for children aged eight to 18 on a Friday night. We also race every Sunday and bank holiday Mondays and join together with other island sailing clubs for events. Come down and see for yourself! “
Everyone seemed to have a fab day out on the water!
Lastly , from everyone at the RYA, we want to say thank you for signing your club/centre up to PTBO, and delivering some great open days and taster sessions. We know how much hard work goes into planning and organising and delivering these events. We hope that you enjoyed your event and also managed to enthuse some new sailors, sign up some new members and maybe fill a few courses.
