Events this week and general nervousness regarding the increased transmission of Covid-19 should emphasise the importance of staying alert and within the latest Government guidelines.
I think you'll agree that the possibility a member had Covid symptoms brought it home to us all that we must never be complacent and let our guard down as Coronavirus is a real issue and it has not gone away. It was with sadness we decided to shut down all our activities last weekend pending Covid test results (happily all negative) and we're delighted to open up again from tomorrow, Friday.
RVYC Return to Racing
After a large amount of planning, and ongoing discussions with the RYA, we are happy to announce the RVYC will be able to offer an official summer racing calendar. The racing will begin with a trial race on Tuesday 14th July at 1830 followed by a Summer Series kicking off on the 19th July at 1030 and running every other weekend through August, as well as Thursday racing for Scows.
Unsurprisingly, racing will run slightly differently to normal. Therefore we ask that anyone wishing to compete or volunteer for a duty reads the RVYC COVID-19 Return to Racing Guidelines and supporting paperwork , as they contain important information about how racing will be run in the COVID19 environment .
These guidelines are available on the COVID19 section of the Website and are laminated and displayed in the Sailing Office . Any updates will be circulated in line with government updates .
Duty-roster has been updated with the new calendar. So please sign up for some race duties throughout the summer and the rest of the season. At this stage we are supporting safety boat cover from single households / bubbles in the first instance .
Summer Series race dates have been updated on the Website Calander and are attached here for your diary .
We look forward to seeing as many people as possible out on the water in the coming weeks and through the rest of the season.
Any questions , just give me a shout .

UPDATED JULY 2020
WE ARE NOW ABLE TO WELCOME VISITORS TO THE PONTOON. WE DO ASK THAT YOU KINDLY BOOK AHEAD OF YOUR VISIT - PLEASE EMAIL OFFICE@RVYC.ORG.UK TO BOOK. AS WE ARE OPEN ONLY AT CERTAIN TIMES, WE ASK THAT, WHERE POSSIBLE, PAYMENT IS BY BACS - WE'LL LET YOU HAVE BANK DETAILS WITH CONFIRMATION OF YOUR BOOKING.
PLEASE REMEMBER SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES WHICH MAY BE IN FORCE AT THE TIME OF YOUR VISIT.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON.
At the time of writing (September 2020), our changing rooms and showers are not open. There is access to the disabled toilet through the rear door (door code in operation).
We have a temporary pop-up bar, which is volunteer run and open at certain times (mainly Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday day time). We also have a temporary pop-up food outlet - again, this is open at restricted times only. We'll include all relevant opening times in our confirmation email.
IS RACING ALLOWED?
A question I have been asked this week is : I can see some boats racing - is this allowed ?
As we are now allowed to meet with six other households outside, it is within reason that informal self-managed racing can happen. This is still only for single-handers or double/ multi-handers from the same household who are competent sailors and sail completely at their own risk.
The RYA guidance recommends that, as long as we follow Government guidelines around health and hygiene and avoid pinchpoints for gatherings such as launching/recovery, mark rounding and group starts, we can as a community look at creative ways to race informally.
Just to confirm that, at the moment, all racing is recreational and is not being organised by the club nor are any club safety boats available for use.
We know that some of the classes have started to use WhatsApp to manage small groups for fun, informal racing. If you wish to be included in any group, please let me know on email@example.com and I can share your details (with your permission) with the person who is managing the group.
Just remember to be considerate and conservative out on the water.
Any questions or concerns, please let me know

CLUB BOATS NOW AVAILABLE FOR HIRE BY MEMBERS (11 JUNE 2020)
Many thanks to the Covid-19 team and our dinghy bosun who have worked super hard to enable the hire of Club boats to be offered to members with immediate effect .
The boat hire form has been amended to include Covid-19 guidance and this can be downloaded at the foot of this article (opens as a PDF). It's also available to download from the website. As you can imagine, there are some changes to the hire procedure and these are set out in full on the form.
I do hope you will all support the opening up of another area of the Club activities.
