Our laying-up supper this year is on Saturday 28 October 2017. This will be the first club event for our new caterers, Munch Bunch and we're sure the menu has something for everyone. It was a busy end to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club cadet 2017 sailing season with 45 young people from eight to 18 attending the Cadet Laying Up Supper last Friday. After supper, the cadets were enthralled by a talk by cadet parent, Brian Thompson. Brian is a well-respected British offshore racer who made it into the history books by becoming the first Briton to break the round the world sailing record twice.

The highlight of Cadet week 2017 ended with the Creek race at 2pm on Sunday 13th August 2017. Race officers Keith Evans and Rachel Leal set 2 courses - with experienced helms and novice helms all eager to put into practice what they had learnt over he last 5 days ! Over 13 lasers & squibs bobbed around in a no wind situation which lead to a 30 minute postponement for the first start .

Cowes Week Squib Report 2017 A fantastic fleet of 26 Squibs competed in Cowes Week this year - and 17 of these had RVYC members onboard. An excellent week with varied conditions challenged both the sailors and their boats. The week started with no wind and a lot of rain, leaving two-thirds of the fleet stranded. Four RVYC cadets and their shore crew travelled to Oxford Sailing Club on Saturday 5 August to take part in the Area Finals of the RYA Honda Youth RIB Championship. A steady Force 4 with a turning tide gave perfect conditions for the 1600 start Sunday, even the sun was out. With a fishing boat anchored on the start line the cruisers had a match race between Nigel Talbot and Tony Pope. The third race in the Wightlink series was held in a light southerly breeze last Sunday. Six Squibs took to the start line first and it was Incognito (Ian Morgan and Rachel Wroath who showed how to get off the line best in a strong ebb tide, followed by Tamsin and Steve Baker in Peregrin.
