The second RVYC Scow race of the spring series took place in Wootton Creek on Thursday the 17th of May eleven boats took to the water in a brisk force four easterly breeze over three laps and the final placings were hotly contested the eventual winner was Dare Barry in 575 Blue Bird second place Andrew Porteous in 149 Shamrock and third Ian Savill in 701 Gwen.

Last weekend the UK Optimist Class Association held its 2019 Team Selection event in Weymouth with the 80 top ranked U16 sailors invited to attend. Places were up for grabs for the Worlds Team, European Team, Development Team and Flanders Team. 12 races were held over 4 days with only one discard so there was no room for error. Having failed to get all classes completing a race this year due to lack of wind, both competitors and organisers scanned the cloudless skies at breakfast to see if the forecasted breeze would arrive. As it happened, a wonderful F3-4 from the east built and remained all day. In fact it created a perfect race wind, without gusts or fluctuation in direction. It was a case of third time lucky - just. As we finally managed to 'race' for the Commissioning Cup on Easter Sunday. It looks like July or August and it could be the Med. But it was April and The Solent. Shame about the wind (or lack of it!) but well done and congratulations to Arthur Farley who was presented with the cup after the race.
