It was a case of third time lucky - just. As we finally managed to 'race' for the Commissioning Cup on Easter Sunday. It looks like July or August and it could be the Med. But it was April and The Solent. Shame about the wind (or lack of it!) but well done and congratulations to Arthur Farley who was presented with the cup after the race. After a fantastic sell-out fitting-out supper, everyone was keen to get out on the water for the first race of the season. What a beautiful day too. RO Martin Bedford on the Bambers' cat, Blaze, set off from the pontoon in search of that elusive breeze. Sadly, this didn't kick in and the 16-strong fleet sailed, paddled or were towed back in to shore. We hope we may be able to reschedule this race

We start our 2019 sailing season with the Commissioning Cup race on Sunday 24 March. This cup was presented by former Commodore, Ian Vallender, to encourage boats and people out on the water early in the season. In 2018, we had 15 entries, six of which were Squibs. Congratulations are in order for the RVYC as we have successfully gained our RYA Onboard recognition ! Run by sailing's National Governing Body, the RYA, OnBoard is a hugely successful grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing and windsurfing easier to access for 8-18 year olds. It seems that spring is in the air and much hard work preparing boats is taking place in gardens and on the creek in anticipation of Easter activities on the water!
