Scow Spring 2 16 May 2019
Eleven Scows took to the water for the second race in their spring series in a brisk easterly F4 breeze. The three lap sausage course had a beat up Wootton Creek to the top mark, which was straightforward but the return beat was a different matter entirely.
A finicky and turbulent breeze off Little Canada played havoc with the boats and, while some helms did read the conditions, some didn't and this proved to be the deciding factor of the race.
Dare Barry has swapped his National 12 for a Scow and was eventual winner in his first season in this class, with Andrew Porteous second and Ian Savill third.
Thanks go to series race officer, David Longford for setting a testing course. The next race in this spring series is on Thursday 30 May with an 11am start.
