Scow spring 1
Martyn Squibb reports on the first Scow race of the year.
Well, what can I say other than the Scowndrels started the season with a bang. Eleven boats took to the water in a light NW breeze. Starting from the club line to the first mark laid inside and to the east of Fairways/ round Fairways to port and round the red post to port and back through the line - three laps in all.
Helen Gatehouse, one of our new recruits, had a flying start and never looked back taking line honours A first time out for Dare Barry in a Scow came second and David Matthias third. Alan Coleville realised that he had taken to the water without his life jacket and had to retire.
1st Helen Gatehouse
2nd Dare Barry
3rd David Matthias
4th Dave Moore
5th John Waterman
6th Ian Saville
7th Jeff Olsen
8th John McDonnell
9th Howard Knowles
10th Hilary Martin (after losing her rig mid-flight a good recovery saw her complete the course)
RTD Alan Colville
All in all a cracking day and, last but not least, thanks to our race officer David Longford, who all agreed laid a testing course for us.
