Cadet Season 2019
It seems a lifetime ago that we were at Waterside Pool practicing our capsize drills and remembering what went where on our boats in April ready for the 2019 season. And what a season it has been!
We have battled tides and weather, too much and too little wind; sailed to Ryde and raced up the creek; jumped off the race box and endless times off the pontoon. Who could have forgotten the brilliant Cadet Regatta with so many capsizes and smiles all in one afternoon!
Congratulations to all our cadets for achieving their RYA qualifications over the 2019 season and also a huge thanks to all the cadet parents and volunteers whose time and enthusiasm have contributed to such a successful year.
It has been a busy year too for our cadets off the island with youngsters
representing the RVYC during the summer months at many national regattas including Cowes Week, the Optimist Nationals, the traveller series and Laser championships with a growing interest in Tera and Feva classes. A big shout out to the podium places and the RYA squad crew. Super hard work for all!
Special mention also to our older cadets Charlie and Harry White, Alex Downer and Matt Bamber who flew the flag at the Island Games in Gibraltar and clocked up some personal bests and a great team result of 7th overall . They were inspiring at the recent Cadet Laying Up supper. Go team IW.
Cadets will continue to sail during the winter months with the Frostbite series and winter training. Cadet registration 2020 is in late January and the membership year starts in October with a full social programme for Cadets throughout the winter.
Lastly, a big thank you to all the RVYC Cadet team for supporting the Cadet programme in 2019.
See you at the Club over the coming months.
