Update on the 2021 on the water season

Published 11:16 on 1 Mar 2021

At last, following on from the Prime Minister's announcement of the roadmap to lifting lockdown restrictions, we can start to finalise plans for our 2021 season of on-the-water events. The RYA has just today updated its guidelines and interpretation of how this will affect clubs' operation you can read their very helpful FAQs here https://www.rya.org.uk/.../Covid%20FAQs%20in%20England....

The following are our initial thoughts on how we hope we'll be able to take things forward in the coming months.

As outdoor sports and facilities can open from 29 March, we're hoping that our sailing and racing programme will start with a re-scheduled Commissioning Cup race on Easter Sunday, 4 April, at 1600. On Easter Monday, we plan to run races 1 and 2 of our new Spring Series, together with the first of the cruiser's Bank Holiday series. The clubhouse will remain closed but toilets will be open for use by members. The guidance states that only participants in organised races and race teams can visit the club, until after 12 April. We'll hopefully have the changing rooms and clubhouse open from 12 April, but there could of course be some slippage with these dates.

Maintenance in and around the club should be able to take place from 29 March, provided the rule of six or two households mixing is adhered to.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to have any hospitality on offer for the first two weekends, but our pop-up bar should be able toopen the week commencing 12 April (most probably our first bar night will be Friday 16 April but we'll keep you up to date and confirm this nearer the time).

From 29 March, the 'rule of six' (or a larger group from two households), comes into force again almost certainly this will be in place until mid-May when it's hoped that most social contact rules will be lifted. This will of course still be in force when we open up our hospitality side again too, so please respect this rule.

The document below is a summary of our proposed on-the-water events for the rest of 2021. We'll also be uploading our normal programme with all on the water activity information, together with sunset and tide times and heights.
