RYA South Zone Squad selection success

Three young RVYC members are celebrating their selection to the RYA's Optimist South Zone Squad.
Cameron Blamey and twins, Finn and Noah Evans, all eleven years old, started sailing at RVYC when they were eight and began competing in the Optimist circuit last year.
The zone squads are the entry point to the RYA's UK Junior Squad programme to enable them to succeed at junior and youth levels in world and European championships. Our most successful sailor, Sir Ben Ainslie started his career on this pathway.
As part of the south zone squad, Cameron, Finn and Noah will receive a range of coaching and training, and off-the-water workshops and competition guidance at various events along the south coast.
Cameron, Finn and Noah had to take part in three indicator events to qualify for the squad, including zone championships. The boys are really excited to have been selected for the Zone Squad. They look to Sir Ben Ainslie in awe as this is how he began his career. All three are determined to succeed and attended the first event at Parkstone YC last weekend. Coaching takes place throughout the winter months and we'll follow their progress on this journey.
The boys are grateful for the support their families give them and to their sponsorship from Wightlink, enabling them to travel to mainland events.
