Merry Down Race Report

Published 10:02 on 22 Sep 2021

What a fabulous weekend of Racing in the Solent !

The Merrydown Regatta 2021 saw over 45 boats in 5 classes compete in champagne conditions off the RVYC on 18/19th of September 2021 . Conditions were challenging at times with tide and light winds but a superb race management team on Committee boat Georgy Girl ensured that 2 races were completed on both days . The Scow fleet raced inshore from Lesa and their colourful sails provided a great spectacle for members ashore .

Racers ashore were greeted with Merrydown a plenty and a fabulous BBQ on Saturday plus prizegiving on Sunday - huge thanks to those ashore and Catertemp for keeping us all fed and watered .

The Merrydown Races on both days were notably won by Arthur Farley - a young island born sailor on the international circuit and great to welcome him back to local waters .

A shout out as well to the Scoundrels for being awarded the Thomas West Cup for the most Regatta entries . A fleet that is growing in size with all walks of Club membership .

Congratulations also to all our Regatta racers and prize-winners - especially our novice fleet !

My thanks to our Race teams and all volunteers ashore and afloat . See you next year !
