ADULT SAILING IS BACK!

Published 17:33 on 4 May 2021

REGISTRATION WEDNESDAY 5 MAY 2021 AT 7PM. PLEASE CONTACT PETER DONALDSON AT PETER_DONALDSON@ME.COM IF YOU'D LIKE TO ATTEND.

RVYC Adult Sailing (AS) Course will be back 19 May

This year, the club will again be running the Adult Sailing Course On Wednesday evenings until the beginning of August.

THE COURSE

The purpose of the course is to provide a regular supervised session to all adult club members, but particularly those members who are either new to sailing or do not have other regular sailing opportunities. Informal instruction, both on and off the water, is provided by a small army of enthusiastic and experienced club members prepared to give their time to the course and to loan their own boats. Please note that this is not a formal course (such as RYA) leading to a formal qualification. However, we shall be supplying a certificate of attendance.

SAILING ACTIVITIES

Course activities each evening depend primarily on the state of the tide and, of course, the weather. Participants will have the opportunity to try out several different craft from cruising yachts to the single handed scow, from racing keel boats (the Squib) to racing dinghies. Where possible, every effort will be made to address individual choices and expectations.

SHORE SESSIONS

When tidal and weather conditions do not permit, the course offers a number of shore sessions covering topics such as sailing theory, boat parts and jargon, rope work, tides and weather, navigation, buoyage and pilotage. These sessions are all conducted in the relaxed social atmosphere that is the essence of the RVYC.

RIB COVER

We are very fortunate again to have the full support of the club RIB fleet organised by Howard Knowles supported by club members. While every effort will be made to conduct the course in an informal and relaxed manner, safety will, as ever, be the highest priority. This can provide a great opportunity to become involved in this most important aspect of a sailing club the launching and recovery of safety boats, under the guidance and watchful eye of bosun Martyn Squibb and an opportunity to experience RIB handling.

ENROLMENT

Please collect a registration form from the office or download as attached below .

ORGANISERS

This year, Peter Donaldson will coordinate the course. Peter has returned to the Island and the RVYC after an absence of a number of years.
