Resumption of Recreational Boating at RVYC

Published 16:01 on 21 May 2020

We recognise that it has been a frustrating few days for people following the Prime Minister's statement on Sunday. During this time, Flag Officers have been putting together a plan to ensure on-the-water activities can resume, including risk assessments and reacting to ever-changing guidance from the authorities. The health and safety of our members, volunteers and staff is the Club's number one priority at all times and we have taken a slow and steady approach to this over the last few days.

Firstly, RVYC will always ensure that it adheres to Government and RYA advice on best practice in relation to Covid-19 and we encourage all our members to ensure that they following current guidance at all times.

Further to our newsflash earlier this week, we are pleased to say that Flag Officers and the Management Committee met virtually yesterday, Wednesday, and have agreed members can resume recreational boating from the club, from this Saturday, 16 May.

A set of FAQs has been produced for members' information and this is attached at the foot of this newsflash.

If there are any areas not covered, please contact the Commodore with your query. Please remember that any activity will need to be alone or with members of a single household and that social distancing must be practices at all times.

In these times of increased strain on our emergency services, please help us to ensure that the risk of an incident leading to support from emergency services is minimised.

As part of the boating community, please take a considerate and conservative approach to being on the water :

BE CONSIDERATE Be mindful of the potential impact you could have on other water users and do not place unnecessary extra strain on the RNLI and emergency services

BE CONSERVATIVE Help to minimise risk by taking an extra conservative approach to your boating.

We'll keep you informed of any changes to this planned return to recreational boating which may affect your activities.

Thank you for your patience. And let's get back on the water and enjoy our sport again, albeit in a different way.

Take care, everyone, and stay safe

Chris Rickman, Commodore

On behalf of Flag Officers and Management Committee 14 May 2020
