Update on Return to Boating : 11 May 2020

Published 11:01 on 11 May 2020

We welcome a return to boating following the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday, 10 May, during which he stated that from this Wednesday, the Government will permit unlimited outdoor activity we understand this may include all forms of boating. The Prime Minister also indicated that people would be permitted to travel to other destinations in order to exercise. Any activity will still need to be alone or with members of a single household, and social distancing must be followed at all times.

We understand that the RYA will review the Government guidance to be published today, Monday, 11 May. The guidance is expected to contain a level of detail that will enable the RYA to issue further advice and guidance before Wednesday. Where there is any uncertainty within the guidelines the RYA will seek urgent clarification.

Until we have seen the Government guidelines in detail, we cannot speculate on when clubs will be able to reopen their doors. RVYC's Flags and Hons will meet online this today to review the change in national restrictions and advice received from the RYA. We will let you know of any change from our current lockdown status via a newsflash and on social media. We have in the meantime spoken with QHM and Notice to Mariners 24/20 remains in place and we urge everyone to comply with this.
