RVYC suspends all activities - sailing, racing and social

Published 08:52 on 21 Mar 2020

The flag officers, officers, Management, Sailing and House Committees have decided that, with immediate effect, RVYC will suspend all its activities until the end of April.

I am sure you will understand that this decision has not been taken lightly and is in response to the unfolding Coronavirus pandemic. RVYC understands it must play its part in halting the spread of Covid-19 in the UK.

The immediate consequences of the suspension are outlined in the action plan below. We would like to reassure our members that these decisions have been taken with the aim of keeping members, and the wider public, as safe as possible.

RVYC CORONAVIRUS ACTION PLAN MARCH 2020

1. 175th Anniversary

All our planned events will now take place in 2021. Details will be available in due course. Our range of commemorative clothing may be available online but we'll update you on this once we've investigated how this may happen.

2. Indoor spaces
In line with Government guidance on social distancing there will be no access to indoor spaces, including the changing rooms. The whole building will remain locked and closed to everyone.

3. Training
Powerboat courses and all other training are cancelled.

4. Cadet training
Sadly, all our cadet activities, including the planned OnBoard programme, are cancelled. We will review provision of cadet activities at the end of April.

5. Racing
All racing is suspended until the end of April, when we will review the situation again

6. Adult Sailing

The entire 2020 adult sailing programme is cancelled. Peter Donaldson, the new organiser, has already written to instructors and helpers with this information.

7. Sailing
We would prefer that none of our members sail from the club facilities. If you do choose to go on the water, there will be no changing facilities as the clubhouse will remain locked.

8. Any members who do choose to sail must please remain up to date with, and observe, the latest Government guidelines regarding social distancing:

Remain at home if you, or any member of your family, has displayed one or more Coronavirus symptoms in the last 14 days

Remain at home if are over the age of 70 or are in the 'vulnerable group' as identified by the Government

Avoid physical contact with other people and respect social distancing (2m)

Wash hands on a regular basis, or use hand sanitiser, avoid hand-to-face contact, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and avoid touching any public surfaces unnecessarily.

The Management Committee will continue to monitor updates from the Government and the RYA, reviewing and updating the club's approach accordingly.

The office is obviously also closed and we will be investigating remote working. While club officers have access to their emails remotely, please do not ring or email the office as your enquiry may not be dealt with as emails and voicemail will not be monitored, at this stage, on a daily basis.

If you would like any further information or if you have any questions, then please contact :

Helen Vrba, Vice-Commodore vicecommodore@rvyc.org.uk

Carol McDonnell, Hon Secretary honsec@rvyc.org.uk

Chris Rickman, Commodore commodore@rvyc.org.uk

Please stay safe and, most importantly, stay home.

We will come through this together and we look forward to normal service being resumed in the not-too-distant future

With best wishes to you all

Chris Rickman, Commodore and Helen Vrba, Vice-Commodore

(on behalf of the Management Committee)
