Youth Sailing

Our Youth Sailing Section is separated into two groups.

Junior Cadets

This covers youth members from the age of 8 to 18, they will generally sail in Optimists or Toppers, Picos or double handed RS Fevas and Lasers.

As an RYA training centre we are able to award the various sailing level certificates, this is usually done at Cadet Week.

Advanced Cadets

The 'Ad Cads' are the most senior cadet group.

Aged between 15 and 18 we race and train all year round in Lasers (4.7, Radial and Standard Rigs). If you want to be in the Ad cads you will need the following (other than being a club member):

   1.    At least a season of club racing in any class.

   2.    A Laser.

   3.    A strong interest (verging on fanaticism) for racing.

   4.    A good level of fitness.

The emphasis on our training is in quality and enjoyment of sailing, we do not operate under time scales to produce your qualification. You can take all year to perfect your sailing before you get your qualification. The majority of our qualifications will be presented at Cadet Week.

What do our Cadets do?

Meeting throughout the year on a Friday evening, the winter time is taken up with social activities in the club house.

In March we hold registration and boat checks ready for the sailing season at the end of March.

On the non sailing nights the groups will meet for short theory sessions.
