Summer Newssheet Available - 2 July 08 Latest Press Report - Click on the link for the latest news from the RVYC - Newssheet & Questionaire 1908 Olympic Yacht Race Centenary Celebration - 1 July 08 Hosted by the RVYC in 1908, the Centenary of this historic sailing occasion will be celebrated with a series of events to be held during Cowes Classic Week and a re-enactment of the race on Sunday 27th July at the RVYC. Rally to Mengeham Rythe - 30 June 08 Information about the inaugural RVYC rally to Mengehan Rythe on the 19 - 20 July can be found on the Cruiser page. RVYC Regatta - 28 June 08 The Notice of Regatta and Entry form and Sailing Instructions are now available on the Open Events page. Creeks of the Solent Itinerary - 18 June 08 A updated itinerary is available to download by following the link, Creeks Itinerary. Cadet Week - 15 June 08 Cadet week forms are now available by clicking on the link, Cadet week registration. Introduction to Club Racing at RVYC - Session 2 - Tactics Saturday 21 June at 1400 In the first session we looked at what you need to know to get you started in club racing. This session will start you thinking about how to move up the fleet and start competing! We will discuss some general points involving “speed through the water” and look at some of the decisions the helmsman has to make: - Route to take. - Best use of natural conditions, using tide and wind shifts. - Avoiding other boats and their slowing influence. - Lee bow effect and “dirty wind”. - Fast sailing skills. - Defending your position. - Tactics. To register your interest and for further information please contact the training coordinator via email - Louisa Mamakou World Youth Island Games - 23 May 08 The team of 4 young sailors, 3 of who are RVYC members have left for the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Emma Baker, RVYC and Yarmouth SC, Emma Gillett Yarmouth SC, Bradley McLaughlin and Freddie Warren-Smith RVYC, will be competing in Optimists between the 24 to 31 May. Oppie Modifications - 22 May 08 I am not sure if this modification would pass measurement at the Nationals but looks fun. Watch out if you have a 420 in the dinghy park! Wightlink Race Series Changes - 22 May 08 The Wightlink Series has had 2 of it's races re-scheduled to accommodate the aniversary race of the 100th Olympics. The races are now as follows, WL 4 and WL5 will take place on the 6th July, WL6 + any ALT race will be on the 20th July. Note, this is different from the published Club racing fixture list. RS Fevas in action - 17 May 08 The two new additions to the club fleet of boats for hire, RS Fevas, have been commissioned and in use by the cadets on selected nights. They currently have racing sails, but a set of training sails are on order, at which point they are available for hire by any club member. A slide show of photos is available by clicking on the link at the end of this message, click on the arrow on the first photo to start the show. One of the Fevas was paid for by a local trust and the other was paid using club funds. The idea of buying double handed boats is to encourage the formation of a double handed fleet. Photo link New Race Box Installed - 08 May 08 The long awaited race box has finally been installed on the platform and is ready for use, it comes complete with features like a door that closes and a window that you can see out of. Open Sailing - added 16 Apr 08 Open Sailing 2008 - Opportunies * For beginners wanting to practice sailing secure in the knowledge that a patrol boat is at hand. * Potential Squib sailors wanting to try out the boats without the pressure of racing and knowing a tow will be there if the wind dies! * Optimist, Topper, Pico, and RS Feva sailors trying out newly acquired (or almost acquired) skills. * Families just having fun on the water. There have been instances of dinghies being blown over or loosing their covers and filling with water. Squibs are also vulnerable in these conditions, some boats are loosing their covers and are filling with water which means they may tip if not stored properly, becoming a hazard to other Club users.
